Understanding credential equivalency

Two approaches must be distinguished:

  • Find out how your degree compares: simply to know what level of education it corresponds to in Canada, useful for a resume or interview.
  • Request official recognition: a formal procedure carried out by an accredited organization, for which there is a fee.

This step is not mandatory. Most Canadian employers place more importance on professional experience than on the diploma itself.

When is assessment necessary?

An official evaluation may be required:

  • If your profession is regulated,
  • For an immigration application,
  • To pursue studies in Canada.

Where to apply for official recognition of your qualifications

Depending on your objective, the relevant agencies differ:

  • Regulated professions: You can contact potential employers, come and meet with us, or contact Éducacentre College to find personalized information about your desired profession.
  • Immigration: Canadian authorities only accept evaluations from recognized organizations such as WES, ICAS, or CES (official list available on the Government of Canada website).
  • Studies: Contact the educational institution you are interested in, which will inform you of its requirements.

Please note:
We do not assist with immigration paperwork (visa applications, permits, etc.). However, we do support individuals once they arrive in Nanaimo to help them settle in and successfully integrate after the administrative process.
